How is the Moxie Makers filmmaking model different?
Moxie Makers doesn't claim to be the first micro-studio to finance, produce and distribute micro-budget features but it does aim to be the most successful. The vertical integration and profit sharing ideals of the company will deliver films that are made with the audience in mind and the revenues transparent. Back to the top
Why is the Moxie model a great way to make films?
For many years talented filmmakers have carried projects around for too long before being allowed to make that first feature. Working with micro-budgets allows Moxie to move swiftly and produce up to four features a year, creating a platform for up and coming filmmakers to make their mark on the UK film industry and launch their careers whilst learning and developing alongside more experienced professionals. Our submissions page sums this up when it says "fresh, engaging, original films with commercial appeal that can be realised on budgets from £150,000 up to £500,000." Moxie Releasing will distribute Moxie films in the UK and Moxie International will sell the films internationally. These two separate companies in conjunction with our partners are the driving force behind every Moxie film ensuring that there is a market and an audience for each production. Back to the top
What's the relationship between Moxie Makers and Ipso Facto Films?
Ipso Facto Films is the management company for Moxie Makers. That means that Moxie Makers can draw on all the experience and talent that Ipso has (gained through operating since 1993 and producing 11 feature films across Europe) to ensure that Moxie films are creative, commercial and successful projects. I already have some money attached to my project can the film still fit the Moxie model?
The first concern is always the quality of the project. If we like your project we then have to look at the source of your finance. If your financiers are willing to work alongside Moxie and embrace the profit sharing ideals of Moxie Makers then there's no reason that your film can't become a Moxie film. Back to the top
Can I shoot my film outside the UK?
Each Moxie film is different and if for creative reasons a filmmaker would like to shoot outside the UK then, dependent on the practical concerns and budgetary issues, this will be considered. Back to the top
Do Moxie Makers shoot on film?
We don't say that you can't. There are financial and creative considerations when choosing the format to shoot a film on and we approach each film separately when making that decision. Back to the top

If I bring a project to Moxie Makers does that mean that you'll take over and I'll lose control?
Talent development is at the core of Moxie Makers and vital for the development and growth of the UK film industry. That development has to include directors, writers, producers and everyone else involved in the filmmaking process. Whilst a certain amount of control must be exercised to insure the investment and the quality of the film produced, guidance is definitely our preferred approach. We would not want to break up the relationships that are already in place on a project. Back to the top
Who makes the decisions about whether or not my project is right for Moxie Makers?
Ipso Facto Films, as the management company of Moxie Makers, will make the initial shortlist of projects and compile market research on the investment potential of each film on the list. This shortlist and research will be presented to the Moxie Makers' board where the decision on which projects to take forward will be made. The Moxie Makers board consists of financiers and industry experts; importantly, this includes representatives from our sales and distribution partners Soda Pictures and Moviehouse Entertainment. As I'm a producer from outside the UK, are you interested in international co-productions?
Moxie Makers aren't looking to involve themselves in international co-productions at the moment but Ipso Facto Films have a rich history of co-productions across Europe and beyond. Back to the top
Do Moxie make documentaries?
We're always looking for engaging stories that can be told well, whether that's a drama or a documentary. Who Killed Nancy? is a documentary and one of the first Moxie Maker productions. Back to the top
Are you interested in animation?
Definitely. If the project fits our other criteria then there's no reason that your animated feature couldn't be a Moxie production. We've no animated films on our slate yet but there's always a first. Back to the top |
